"Somewhere along the line we seem to have confused comfort with happiness. Dostoyevsky had it right: ‘Suffering is the sole origin of consciousness.’ Never are my senses more engaged than when the pain sets in. There is a magic in misery."

A friend showed me this old Nike Free video when I was talking about all the great running commercials I’ve seen lately. The whole thing is awesome but the end just makes it.

Beer/Running or Beer Running

I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by this hilarious blog article I found. I was actually searching for a race that combines drinking beer and running (I’ve heard of these before and wanted to share this information with a co-worker) but I was gifted with this first.

It’s about a guy who ran a half marathon while drinking beer - a beer a mile, in fact. He didn’t run during the actual race but retraced the San Francisco Half Marathon course a several hours after it had gone off. It’s entertaining, anyway, and I haven’t read the rest of the articles on his blog, ”Exercising while Intoxicated,” but I’m sure they’re similarly goofy and fun to read.

Running is my solace.

Running is my solace.

"Struggling and suffering are the essence of a life worth living. If you’re not pushing yourself beyond the comfort zone, if you’re not demanding more from yourself - expanding and learning as you go - you’re choosing a numb existence. You’re denying yourself an extraordinary trip."

"The obsession with running is really an obsession with the potential for more and more life."

- George Sheehan
