A Directionless Guide to Running!
This’ll help for all your Couch to 5k training :)
Among a handful of great tips, I think the debunking of the below myth is one of the greatest things ever. So great, in fact, that it makes me feel really good about Mizuno - as a company - and what they’re trying to do here. Sure they’re still trying to sell a product, but apart from that, they seem to have actual runners in their midst who GET IT and have imparted wisdom on us. I can only hope these people are more deeply involved in the company.
The key to great running is finding the right shoe.
Myth Buster: Yes, I work for a running shoe company which makes great shoes but the key to great running isn’t the shoes. Shoes are a useful tool that we all need, but the key to great running is health and consistency. Another words, great running is being able to run on a daily basis. Shoes certainly help, but the best running shoe is one you never even notice.
Don’t talk to me about Crossfit. I’m in incredible shape and I’m a damn good athlete. I’m strong - despite not lifting weights. I don’t need to hear your BS about how I would be a better athlete if I did Crossfit. I don’t tell you to go and run 9 miles a day six times a week because running is the best workout for overall fitness. I say just do something. Keep moving. Stay fit. Live forever.
From “Why I Hate CrossFit”
Elite snobbery – Despite the fact that the fitness industry has been effectively using HIIT (high intensity interval training) for many, many years before Crossfit was born, many people in the CrossFit community act like they invented it. Some guys busts his ass manage to master a terribly designed fitness program, and walks around like he is the fittest man on the planet who none can question? Not so much. The fact is that CrossFitters are typically good at only one thing. CrossFit. With the lack specificity, the programming doesn’t lend itself well to much else. So working out pretty much becomes your sport. Now I don’t doubt that CrossFitters are strong, and are probably pretty decent athletes. But let’s be real. Outside of Crossfit Games, among the real elite, speficity training rules the day. Most of the so called”elite” I’ve seen in CrossFit were already strong athletes in one sport or another, so it only makes sense that they would do well, even with this faulty method. I would put any of the top known strength and conditioning specialists in the country’s programming against the CrossFit programming, and i guarantee the athlete in question would outperform any “Elite” CrossFitter.
